Kaunas Unites is a summer day camp for Lithuanian and Ukrainian teenagers aged 14 to 18. The camp aims to address issues related to communication, self-expression, cultural integration, and language learning among young people. Many teenagers, especially those of different nationalities, face difficulties in communicating, lack self-confidence and motivation. During the camp, teenagers will improve their Lithuanian and English language skills, communicate, form friendships, discover new hobbies, and gain practical knowledge. The camp is a space free from bullying and discrimination, and a safe space for LGBTQI+ people.
Camp objectives:
- Improving the Lithuanian language skills of Ukrainian teenagers and the English language skills of teenagers of both nationalities through practical and interactive activities.
- Promoting intercultural communication between Lithuanian and Ukrainian youth
- Boosting teens’ self-confidence and encouraging curiosity and motivation to learn
- Provide teenagers with practical knowledge on topics relevant to them
Main camp activities:
- Daily practices – Lithuanian and English language workshops, during which teenagers will improve their language skills through discussions, creative projects, and group work
- Visits and meetings– at least one visit or meeting planned each day to Kaunas institutions, people working in Kaunas, or companies operating in Kaunas, whose activities are related to the theme of a particular shift
- Intercultural workshops – activities in which teenagers will share their culture, language, and traditions
- Team building tasks – games and challenges that encourage cooperation, networking, and self-confidence
- Reflection sessions – At the end of the day, its activities, achievements, and lessons are discussed.
The camp will have four shifts, each lasting five days. Each shift will have a different theme, so the camp will cover a wide range of interests and bring together teenagers who are interested in similar areas.
Themes for the four camp shifts:
- “The Maze of Professions”: June 30th – July 4th. – Teenagers will explore different professions and career opportunities. They will meet representatives from various fields (engineers, doctors, artists, etc.), perform practical tasks, and explore the skills needed for the future job market. Example of a trip: meeting with representatives of Kaunas Techpark.
- “Financial Challenge”: July 14th – July 18th. – a shift dedicated to developing financial literacy. Teenagers will learn how to plan a budget, save money, and develop business ideas. Example of an trip: a visit to a Bank of Lithuania with a practical lecture on money management.
- “Explorers of the Digital World”: July 28th – August 1st. – technology and digital skills shift. Teenagers will learn the basics of programming, digital content creation, and online safety. Example of a trip: a visit to the office of an IT company operating in Kaunas.
- “Journey of Self-Discovery”: August 11th – August 15th. – Teenagers will delve deeper into their personalities, emotional intelligence, and communication skills. Activities will promote self-confidence, goal setting, and achievement. Example of an outing: practical lecture with a psychologist at the Kaunas Youth Center.
