The project “Visible and Heard: Responding to Gender-Based Violence against LBT Women and Non-Binary People” addresses a critical and often invisible problem in Lithuania – gender-based violence experienced by lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LBT) women and non-binary individuals. These communities face a high risk of violence due to intersectional discrimination, lack of institutional sensitivity, and inaccessible or inadequate support services. Research and experience show that victims rarely seek help due to stigma, fear of rejection, or lack of trust in institutions.
The main objective of the project is to strengthen the safety and empowerment of LBT women and non-binary people while improving institutional responses to gender-based violence. The project targets LBT and non-binary individuals throughout Lithuania, public sector professionals (in social services, healthcare, education, and law enforcement), NGO representatives, and the broader public.
Key activities include data collection and analysis, targeted practical trainings, development of methodological materials, public awareness events, community-building efforts, and advocacy campaign. Through these actions, the project aims to directly empower at least 150 community members, train 60 professionals, produce 1 practical toolkit for institutions, and reach a wider audience through digital communication. In the long term, the project will contribute to reducing gender-based violence, increasing public awareness, and supporting systemic change towards a more inclusive and safer society for all.
